Z8 CPU User Manual (2008) is a good starting point for understanding the unique memory architecture of the Z8. eZ8 CPU Core User Manual (2015) is even better. Page xii explains R1[7:0], (PC[15:0]), Register Pointer, Working Registers, etc. Z8 Microcomputer Technical Manual (April 1983).
